PSYCHOTERAPIA

Psychotherapeutic work which covers all areas of human experience, including active work with emotions and the body alongside traditional conversation, while remaining open to the Client’s spiritual search has become my passion. I continue to develop my interests and knowledge at various workshops and trainings, going beyond what is already known to me. I do this because I believe that combining different approaches, techniques, and concepts is very helpful in working with people. Each person constitutes a unique Microcosm and does not fit into rigidly defined schemas. I also believe that I have gained invaluable tools and immense resources from my experience derived from both life and therapeutic work on myself in the Core Energetics and psychoanalytic psychotherapies, as well as during numerous workshops. As a psychotherapist, I use not only my knowledge but also my heart, intuition, and energy... In addition to individual psychotherapy, I also conduct therapeutic workshops, therapeutic groups, relaxation classes, and carry out other projects and meetings that I would like to share with people. In some cases, a psychiatric diagnosis is helpful; however, in my work, I do not look at a human being through the prism of a diagnosis. Every person is for me a fascinating Microcosm to be jointly discovered by the Client in the company of the Therapist

The Core Energetics method perceives the human being as a connection of Body, Mind, Emotions, and Spirit, making it a holistic method of working with a person. It integrates psychotherapy based on conversation with body-oriented work techniques. It is a method that is constantly developing and is open to a whole range of diverse interventions that can help the client (for example, various art therapy techniques, elements of psychodrama, and many others). In therapeutic work, the psychoanalytic perspective is also important to me, which helps to better understand what is happening in the unconscious. It is there, where the sources of our difficulties, repeating patterns, or emotions that are not always adequate to the current situation are hidden. Thanks to this approach, it is easier to connect experiences from the past with what we experience today, and Core Energetics work with the body and emotions becomes deeper and more supportive in the process of change.

The founder of Core Energetics is John Pierrakos (1921 – 2001), a psychiatrist by education. He became interested in the works of Reich, a student of Freud, who was the first to draw attention to how the body reacts to the blocked energy of unexpressed emotions. Pierrakos initially, in the 50s, co-created Bioenergetic Analysis together with Alexander Lowen, and in the 70s he founded the first Core Energetics Institute in New York. The Polish Core Energetics Association is a full member of the International Association of Core Energetics (www.iace.com) and a supporting member of the Polish Federation for Psychotherapy.

I became acquainted with psychoanalytical way of thinking during the Psychotraumatology Psychotherapy training conducted by the Pomeranian Centre for Psychotraumatology Foundation in cooperation with the "Kirinus" Institute for Integrated Psychotherapy in Munich.

Foundations of my practice

In therapy, we create a space to recognize our defences and the underlying wounds, to express unexpressed emotions, to restore full breathing, and to experience what it is like to start expressing what we haven't been able to until now – first in safe conditions during therapy, and later in life... In other words, we want to see the hurt, small inner child, understand its story and embrace it; to see how brave it was, how incredibly well it managed, what resources – treasures – it gathered. Then, we need to look at our adult part – connect with it, ask if the defences that were needed by the child are still needed by the adult, and learn to choose: when to use them and when not... To learn to express anew emotions and needs hidden very deep, learn to set boundaries, learn to care for oneself in a new way that reopens the source of creativity, joy, and pleasure, while releasing energy blocked in the body. Full potential still lies dormant in every human being, even if they have completely forgotten about it – this is the fundamental assumption of Core Energetics and the lens through which we look at the people who come to us for support.

Every limitation of a human’s natural vitality causes pain; to avoid feeling it, we build specific ‘defenses’: we regulate our breathing and tense various muscle groups to hold back the explosion of emotions and present ourselves as the environment wants to see us.

If such difficult events repeat over a longer time, incorrect breathing patterns become fixed and muscle tensions become chronic, and in adult life, our bodies reflect the history of our experiences. These defenses protect us from pain, however, in adult life, they become inadequate to the situation and prevent us from fully enjoying life and creativity.

Have you seen a newborn baby? Have you seen how such a tiny being expresses its emotions? How it shows with its whole body that it is hungry or content, how with its whole being it reaches for the breast – a promise of pleasure and satisfaction? In such a small child, energy flows without any obstacles, allowing it to express its needs and all emotions freely.

However, later on, various limitations and frustrations come from the immediate environment: mom might be depressed or ill and unable to respond adequately to her child's needs; perhaps the parents heard that the best path to success in upbringing is to let the child cry it out, and the child, instead of being soothed in its despair, began to doubt that the world is a friendly and safe place... later it might have learned that it is not good to cry or laugh too loudly because it disturbs adults, or that it is best not to stand out too much at all.

It probably also learned that its creative, joyful activity is subject to comparison and evaluation, just like its school discoveries – this could have led to the loss of joy in creating and discovering the world.
